It is so exciting bringing a new “furbaby” home! To make the transition easier for you, here are the things that I recommend you need to prepare for your fur baby’s arrival home!

First, and very important is the crate. This is like your puppy’s crib. No one would ever think of letting a baby crawl around, possibly put dangerous things in their mouth, fall off a bed, etc. This is your puppy’s safe space to play and sleep. If you are not actively monitoring your puppy, the safest place is the crate. It is recommended that you put the crate in your bedroom, so you are near the puppy and it is not alone.
Recommended size for a Miniature dachshund is the 24 inch size (Dimensions-24 length x 18 width x 19 height inches). I prefer the double door version, but you can decide based upon where you are keeping the crate in your home. This is the easiest way to housetrain your pup. Puppies do not like to soil where they sleep. You should put the blanket and some toys in the crate, so they associate it with a positive place. Please note that they may have accidents, so you may want to have additional blankets or a dog bed to switch while one is being washed.
Some people like to cover their pup to give them quiet time. A crate cover is a good choice.

FLEA/TICK prevention
Fleas and Ticks are annoying and frustrating but the chemicals we are putting on our dogs are harmful to both our pups and wildlife.

I do not believe in using flea drops and/or flea/ tick oral medications. These drops are toxic. IMO there are other less toxic solutions. I happily recommend these FurLife pendants or collars.
